The WDF World Championship returned to the Lakeside Country Club, affectionately known by many dart fans as the home of darts due to numerous stagings of the previous BDO and WDF World Darts Championship Events.
The WDF World Darts Championships feature not one but four events. Events include an open championship, a women's championship, a youth championship, and a girls' championship.
Broadcast: The first five days will be streamed on the WDF YouTube Channel; the final days will be shown on S4C*. However, the WDF YouTube feed will remain available to viewers outside the UK.
*In Wales, S4C is channel 4 (Freeview, Freely) and 104 (Freeview HD, Sky, Virgin Media, Freesat). Outside of Wales, it's Sky 134, Virgin Media 164, Freesat 120 and Freely 70 (online only)
This year, Paul Lim, now 71, reached the 2024 WDF World Championships final. However, Paul has also secured a spot at the PDC World Championships and will not be returning to Lakeside this year, as the rules state players can only compete in one of the two World Championship Events. Defending back-to-back three-time Women's World Champion, Beau Greaves, has similarly secured a place at the PDC World Championships this year. On this occasion, she has opted to play in the PDC Event rather than defend her WDF Lakeside world Title. However, previous winners Shane McGuirk, Neil Duff, and Mikuru Suzuki will all be competing in the hope of adding to their Previous World Title wins.
Although the WDF World Championships isn't considered the pinnacle of world darts, the PDC now holds that honour due to its prize fund: the winner of the 2026 event receives £1,000,000, compared to the WDF winner receiving £50,000. A player playing in the PDC World Championship needs only to make it through to the fourth round to earn more than the WDF Open winner. The PDC fourth round loser will receive £60,000. It is hard for the WDF to compete, if indeed it does, with the PDC. Nevertheless, the WDF Lakeside event is a dart fan's must-see, and hopefully millions will turn in or attend this great event.
For those who wish to compare prize funds, the PDC has massively increased the 2026 prize fund and expanded the global representation for their 2026 Event. The PDC World Champions have a £5M prize pot, and the WDF has £221,000 across four separate staged events.
Details below show the WDF Championships, results and prize fund breakdown.

Update: Having qualified for both the PDC and WDF World Championships, Beau Greaves informed the WDF that she will be taking up her PDC World Championship spot later this year. Her WDF qualifying spots have been replaced in line with WDF rules.
**After the final qualifier in Budapest began, the WDF realised an error was made in calculating the final place awarded from the race table, with Maud Jansson being invited and included in the draw rather than Lisa Zollikofer. Once this error was discovered, the WDF elected to invite both players, taking the field for the Women's World Championship to 25. Zollikofer will take the place of Qualifier 1 in the draw. Qualifier 2 in the draw will be determined by a play-in match on the first Friday of Lakeside between the two winners of the last-chance Budapest Qualifier. Jansson, Zollikofer, and the two Budapest qualifiers are all guaranteed first-round prize money by the WDF.
