Marketers / Outreach Maketers - Business and Personal Emails

Marketers / Outreach Maketers

Be Professional

Use of personal email address for business purposes

Since 2012, I have accepted article placements and links on some websites. I have worked with some excellent outreach marketers and businesses. However, some give this industry a bad name.

In the past, I have accepted article placements from marketers using personal email addresses such as Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail etc. Unfortunately, like any personal email address, you don't know who they are or if they work for a company or freelance, as many are. Throughout the past few years, I had issues with some marketers paying for the work I have done for them. Hence to say anyone new, I now request payment before placement. Once I have a working relationship, I relax this rule and will send an invoice upon publication.

In some cases (marketers) that use personal email addresses are students. They don't have funds to pay for the work they commission and rely on their client either to pay them or their client pay directly. Sometimes, the marketer is paid, and they haven't paid for my work. Hence to say their client loses out on link placement and money they have paid. I am not a bank, so I expect to be paid when I complete work. I do not expect to wait to be paid, and if your client doesn't pay you, then you still have a contract to pay me for the work you may have commissioned.

I also received enquiries from personal email users stating they work for XYZ company. In some cases, the enquirer as provided web address for me to follow. I have also spent time emailing the compies direct, and in some cases, the company denies all knowledge of the person as they don't work for them. They use other business websites as a front.

I also had a disgruntled employee using a business address, and then state requests will come from a personal email! You have to ask yourself why? The reason can be genuine, while others are just trying to build their own business on the back of their employers, or the business wants to distance the business from the order. There are several reasons why some try to do this, which I won't go into.

I have had reasons to consult legal advice regarding marketers and have many years in business besides websites. If an employee works on behalf of their employer and requests/commissions work and the request comes from the employer's business domain, then the employer is subject to honour the contract. If a personal email is used, the employer can distance themselves, claiming this is someone acting on their own, and indeed this can be true. People who use personal email addresses for business purposes are liable, but who are they, and how can a recipient ID them? You can't, and the cost doesn't justify itself when you employ professional legal teams to find out.

I am aware that some businesses use personal emails as these are less likely to be blocked than business email addresses. If a recipient sets up their mail not to receive business emails, they don't want to hear from you.

I am a web developer and coder, and it is possible to reject personal email enquires from a web form. However, by doing so, I would also reject other non-business enquiries. Of course, with some know-how, some can quickly find business addresses on the internet.

Why do I record IP addresses?

Despite refusing enquires from marketers that use a personal email address. It seems some can not accept no for an answer. Many make further enquiries using a different email address yet still use the same IP. Okay, this is easily changed, but it builds a picture.

Many pc users don't know when you send an email; the email contains lots of information, regardless if you are using incognito browsing.

Business Marketers

I have worked with over two hundred different marketers and marketing firms. I have worked directly with major gaming, betting, and bookmakers across the globe. Professional businesses are welcome.

If you are an employee of a marketing firm and have been asked to use a personal email address for business, then the owner of the account, namely you, is liable for business transactions of your request. The business can distance itself. Finding out who you are is challenging, so I now refuse these users. I respectfully request you ask your employer to provide you with a business email address.

Businesses

I also refuse new businesses that have not been established for a minimum of two years, as some marketers will buy a cheap template and start trading without providing any business profile.

Please note: All marketing enquiries will be checked. Should you use a template for your website that uses stock images to represent named staff, your request may be refused.

As stated initially, some have mudded this industry for the genuine marketers trying to work. All I ask is to be professional and have a business website and a business email at the SAME domain as the business you represent.
