Bunting To Replace Van Gerwen And Price At Upcoming Tournaments

Stephen Bunting is a man who hasn’t just received one call to step in as a replacement in the coming weeks, but two, as The Bullet will play two events in place of Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price across the month of June. And it appears to be a great call on the face of it due to Bunting’s popularity with darts fans.

The first call Bunting received came when Michael van Gerwen decided to pull out of the Nordic Darts Masters, which is played between June 7 and June 8 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Van Gerwen, who was one of the favourites to win the tournament, as he is when it comes to all online sports betting of a darts persuasion, will be on holiday while the event is on and is, therefore, unable to participate. So, Bunting, the man who defeated Van Gerwen in the Masters several months ago, takes his place.

But that wasn’t the only call Bunting received where the World Series Tournaments are concerned because Welshman Gerwyn Price then became unavailable for the Poland Darts Masters, which takes place the week after the event in Copenhagen, Denmark. Price, who has pulled out of a couple of tournaments in 2024 already, will not compete in Gliwice, Poland, and it’s Bunting who will take his place. The Poland Darts Masters takes place across June 14 and June 15.

The PDC Representatives for both events are now as follows

Nordic Darts Masters

  • Luke Humphries (England)

  • Stephen Bunting (England)

  • Michael Smith (England)

  • Nathan Aspinall (England)

  • Gerwyn Price (Wales)

  • Rob Cross (England)

  • Peter Wright (Scotland)

  • Dimitri Van den Bergh (Belgium)

Poland Darts Masters

  • Luke Humphries (England

  • Michael van Gerwen (Netherlands)

  • Michael Smith (England)

  • Nathan Aspinall (England)

  • Stephen Bunting (England)

  • Rob Cross (England)

  • Peter Wright (Scotland)

  • Luke Littler (England)

In both of the tournaments, there will be players who are deemed more likely to triumph, with Luke Humphries being the man to beat as the current world number one. But reigning champion in the Nordic Darts Masters, Peter Wright, may have something to say about that.

Michael van Gerwen is the reigning Poland Darts Masters champion, and pulling out of the Nordic Darts Masters to return to defend his title seems all part of the plan for the Dutchman. He’ll be looking to make it back-to-back Poland Darts Masters titles, which would also mean he’d be the only winner of the tournament so far.

Luke Littler, the current leader in the Premier League and runner-up at the World Championship, won’t be playing in Copenhagen but is included as one of the PDC representatives heading to Poland in mid-June. The seventeen-year-old has already tasted success in the World Series of Darts and will be hoping to add to this further in the coming months. And for Bunting, it’s a chance he will undoubtedly take with both hands after not being initially included. His Masters title win will give him the confidence in both Denmark and Poland.
