The Professional Darts Corporation World Championships blend all of the most exemplary aspects of gambling into a single absurd event. Under one roof, darts betting and matches combine the intensity that comes with baseball betting, the euphoria that is always in the air under massive football games, and the one-and-done tournament style of March Madness.
Darts World Championship tags along with the one duel, like boxing or tennis. You are bound to have accelerated heartbeats like in hockey games and offer a different vibe than the one we are used to in the NFL.
Darts offer a steady learning curve, and it's easy to skim through the rules to get you hooked in a match.
The depth of skill displayed from the Pro Tour's qualifiers around the world is something to behold. There are great names around the world and fan favourites in the World Championship. However, three names seem to dominate the list of both the greatest and fan favourites: Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright, and Gerwyn Price.
There are three clear favourites in the Darting World right now, according to the odds: Michael "MvG" van Gerwen of the Netherlands, Peter "Snakebite" Wright of Scotland, and reigning champion Gerwyn "Iceman" Price of Wales.
The Darts have a slew of endearing personalities. Gerwyn Price, on the other hand, is not among them. You may address him as the villain of the story. That isn't inherently negative, nor is it a dig on Price; every sport needs a villain, and the Welshman does it well. He's arrogant and loud and capable of winning titles, over the past couple of years
He never seems to be phased by the big occasions, and he's an expert at getting into his opponent's brain. It's what makes betting against him so fun until he comes back from two sets down, lets out one of his signature roars, and wrecks your afternoon.
Price is from winning the World Grand Prix in 2020 and is the current World Darts Champion. His form is in good shape. However, Price has struggled in some of the early rounds of major events, so if you want to evade the Welshman, do it fast and quickly, focusing on the first rounds, which are shorter.
This year, Gerwyn Price has been a player on fire in global darts. It can't be denied that the Iceman is a hot favourite for the championship, regardless of who you are or whether you are a fan of his or not.
Snakebite finally exorcised his demons in 2020 with his maiden World Championship. The Scotsman's talisman was in excellent form in 2020, winning the European Championship and reaching the 2020 Players Championship quarterfinals. In July 2021, Wright won his first World Matchplay in Blackpool, beating the former Matchplay Champion Dimitri van den Bergh 18-9
Currently ranked at No.2 by the PDC Order of Merit, Wright is more than capable of adding another World title to his name. Which set of darts he will be using is a harder bet as he changes these more often than his flamboyant outfits! Will the Grinch appear again, and will he steal the show as he did in 2021? Maybe this time, he will walk away with the World trophy in his mits!
Van Gerwen, the darts man, needs no introduction as his fame already preceded him. He will be one of the familiar favourites to win the 2022 World Championships at Alexandra Palace. MvG is comparable to the great Tiger Woods of golf in the world of darts. He's one of the best players on the field for some years, and if he's on his game, and others struggle to defeat him.
With three victories and two runner-up places in the previous nine World Championships, the bright-eyed Dutchman has reached the semi-finals in eight of the last nine. He's entertaining to watch, but not so much to bet on because you'll have to lay some big wood if you want to get close to MvG.
Van Gerwen's A-game is something other players should be concerned about, so the hunt for the title begins. He won't be anxious about the predicted run to the final. Still, he will be fully aware that nothing is inevitable in the unique World Championship, as he found out in the 2021 World Championships.
Over a decade ago, he came back from a loss in the World Championship final to defeat Peter Wright and earn the number one ranking. After being dethroned by Wright, could Van Gerwen reclaim the number four spot in the best possible way?
