With a change of venue and no spectators, the BoyleSports World Grand Prix is to entertain fans across the world. The unique event form is set to bring more surprises and upsets as the players have to hit a double to start and a double to finish! Not starting the leg within your first three darts can mean the leg is lost but surprisingly this event has also been filled with nine-dart legs and more than one in a single match.
Michael van Gerwen, the current PDC order of merit No.1 and defending champion will, of course, stand out as the punters favourite but lockdown seems to have not been great for the young Dutchman. His new nemesis if the former BDO three-time back-to-back champion Glen Durrant.
Glen Joined the PDC in 2019 and has stomped up the ranking as many fans predicted. Long odds on Glen winning have gone, but he is still hasn’t won a PDC major, and the BoyleSports World Grand Prix could be the start of a new dominant player in the sport.
Glen is also in the Premier League Play-off finals after winning the round-robin phase of the tournament and will be the favourite to take the Premier League title later this month.
Most dart fans like to express their views on the outcome of these tournaments, darts betting, is undoubtedly one way you can have your say, and you might be a bit richer for it.
The first-round draw for the World Grand Prix has been, and there are serval tournament clashes that are tight to call.
James Wade, a former winner of the event, will face Mervyn King who has shown a recent return to form. Mervyn now considered one of the old school of players is still one of the hardest players to beat and his work ethic to keep his game sharp is second to none. Although James will start as an odds-on favourite in this encounter, I am sure Mervyn will not see the match the same way as the bookies. Mervyn could be a dark horse in this tournament should he progress beyond round one.
Michael Smith ‘Bully Boy’ is unlikely to bully Dimitri van den Bergh much in their first-round encounter. Dimitri claimed his first title last month by winning the PDC World Matchplay to confirm he is a player that is on form. This match is a tight one to call, and both players are capable of stringing together several legs in a predicted high scoring contest.
Devon Peterson has earned his way into the World Grand Prix qualifiers. Hot of a win in the German Darts Championships in September, Devon could be another player to watch. It has taken Devon a few years to show top form and win a PDC title finally and this may be the springboard he needs to gain more. Former World BDO Champion and darts pundit Mark Webster backs Peterson for the World Grand Prix title.
